Hops, known for its function in brewing beer, comes fromĀ Humulus lupulus, common hop. The cones, seen here, are used to add taste and to help preserve the beer. India Pale Ales, IPAs, were originally brewed with a large amount of hops to help preserve them on the long trip to India. Fields of cultivated hops are referred to as hopfields, hop gardens or hop yards. [x]
