King spider orchid
The red ‘lip’ of a king spider orchid (Caladenia pectinata) attracts wasps who, thinking that it’s a mate, rub against it and take away pollen to fertilise another flower.

Bulbophyllum is a genus in the Orchid family. This is B. medusae, named, unsurprisingly, for the long sepals that are reminiscent of snakes.

Black isn’t a color you often find in the orchid family, Orchidaceae. It is therefore highly coveted. This is Cymbidium Kiwi Midnight, that being its commercial name. This flower is not actually true black, though it might appear to be. It is actually a deep burgundy.

Many of you will be able to identify this as an orchid, one of the approximately 24,000 species in the Orchidaceae family. This is Phragmipedium Les Dirouilles.

A very cool timelapse video of a flowering orchid.
