This is the inflorescence (the fancy name for a cluster of flowers) of Heliconia pendula. It’s a rainforest plant and is herbaceous (non-woody) despite being over 8 feet tall. The red part of the “flower” is actually called the bract, and the white thing you sticking out is the actual flower. On typical flowers, the bracts are the green spikes around the base of the flower.
